The Job Hunting

Last Tuesday (April 12), I woke up and decided to go on with my plan of seeking jobs or passing my application letter and other pertinent documents to two of my target schools. My bf, Ram, got mad at me on Monday (April 11) 'coz I kinda promised him that I will work on it on that day. I was too lazy that day because I slept at 1 am already! Gosh! Because of this QNB thing. QNB means quick news bites. It's a news site my cousin boss made and the writers are us! We got really busy because that was like the "launching" of the site.

So, anyway, I got up and fixed myself. I had a little trouble because I thought I lost my flash disk. In it were the application papers and resume I encoded beforehand. I was making plans of encoding it again on my mother's office since I'll be printing the files on her office too. Luckily, I found my flash disk hidden inside my HK pouch bag. I blew out a little sigh.

I arrived at my mother's office at around 11am already. I was kinda late on my scheduled plan. So upon arriving, I printed my papers then wait for lunch time. When 1pm arrived, I went to the first target school - Holy Child Colleges of Butuan. I went to the secretary and told her that I wanted to apply for a teacher. She said she'll just receive my papers and call me if the president would be back. She said the president's out of town. So I left my papers in her hands, thinking when they will call me.

Next up, I went to the second target school - Saint Joseph Institute of Technology. We had a relative working there in the high school department. So I went to her first and asked her to accompany me to the HR Office. We went there and a secretary handed me some papers to be filled up. It was like a PDS (personal data sheet) but in their own version. It took me awhile since there were a lot of things to be filled out. When I was done, the HR head talked to me. Most of the things he said that I totally remembered was that he suggested that I take a Masteral Degree. They were in dire need of an ESL teacher because they have this new program. They accept foreign students, so they need teachers that are expert on teaching English for foreign learners or students. According to Mr. HR Head, if I take my masterals this June, he'll hire me as a part time English instructor until I finished. I was then thrilled at that time. He then told me to go to their testing center and take a test there. I was finished at around 4:30pm already. When I got back to his office, he told me to go back the next day (April 13) for an interview with the dean.

April 13 arrived I was all jittery and nervous. I didn't know what kind of preparations I'm gonna do. Good thing Ram was there to help me. He said that I calm down and just be myself. Confidence is the most important thing and that should be the attitude I'm going to put inside me. But it seems to be a little difficult.

The HR head told me that at 2pm I should be there already. I arrived 1:48pm in his office. I thought I was the only one that the dean would interview. There were other people, mostly ladies. I felt like so little at that time. I felt insecure. But I shoved it aside as we made our way to the dean's office. I was the 3rd girl that was interviewed.

The dean was a guy. Stupid me, I didn't know the name (im sorry!). He asked me those typical questions for an interview. But there was one statement he said that really caught my attention, "You're preempting me." I was like what?? I was really puzzled why he said that. Did I say something wrong?? Hmm..maybe I do, but which part? I was being genuine during the interview. I don't know. I was really puzzled.

After the interview, we went back to the HR Office and had a little talk with the HR head about the results of the interview with the dean. The HR head said my interview was alright. The result, as what the HR said, the dean "highly recommended" me to the basic education or in the high school department. I was a bit saddened by the result. But it was alright. I wasn't really qualified to be an ESL teacher anyway.

So in the end, SJIT will just inform me when the demo will be. Sooo..I'm patiently waiting...and hoping they would call soon. And also, I have to prepare for the demo...Good luck and God bless to me! :)
